Tengo brazos fuertes
Aug. 29th, 2005 08:37 pmCheering news from the work camps of Doha: as
aristopheles suggested, the workers have been striking.
Flash strike by 300 workers enters third day
Aggrieved workers continue to stay away, demand pay arrears (This one is particularly moving as it recounts how the workers offered a month's worth of arrears refused, in "solidarity with senior workers who were not offered any arrears.")
Also: Indian mission probing huge recruitment racket
I'm still disappointed that it seems to be primarily the Indian and Nepali embassies that are ensuring enforcement of Qatari labor law. But hooray for the 300-400 striking workers!
When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run,
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun;
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one,
But the union makes us strong...
