qatarperegrine: (UNCHR)
The Indian construction workers' strike is over. Qatar's National Human Rights Committee stepped in and mediated a settlement, the workers have been paid, and work resumed this morning.

From the Peninsula, in chronological order:

Indian construction workers flock to embassy for answers to their woes
Firm blames Indian envoy for not contacting employers
Workers end stir as rights panel steps in

I'm still concerned about this passage in that last article:
The representative of the workers, Madhu Menon, was later reportedly fired by their employers along with four of his colleagues for inciting workers and encouraging indiscipline.
That's not a great sign for the future of a Qatari labor movement.
