Sic et non
May. 23rd, 2005 01:10 pmOur downstairs neighbors had a baby girl yesterday evening. Her name is Heloise.
This, of course, led to me looking up more information on Heloise and Abelard, the famous twelfth century lovers. I knew, in broad strokes, about their love affair, her subsequent pregnancy, the secret marriage, and both of them ending up in the cloister.
What I didn't know is that their lovechild was named... brace yourself... Astrolabe. As in the navigational instrument. Astrolabe!! Justin decided at lunchtime that this must have been the twelfth century equivalent of naming your baby Moon Unit.
