Badly in need of haircuts, Justin and I went to the Ritz-Carlton this afternoon. It turns out that, unlike every other kind of service provider in Qatar, hairdressers at the Ritz DO require appointments. Justin was out of luck, but the women's salon managed to squeeze me in. (Salons here are not unisex; the one I usually go to, Diamond Hair Saloon, doesn't allow men on the premises. The Ritz, oddly, has a ladies' salon that employs exclusively men, so my hairdresser was a man.)

Anyway, camera-happy Justin took before and after pictures:

This morning, with my badly overgrown standard Diamond Hair Saloon cut.
This afternoon, with my slick new 'do. What are the odds I'll be able to style it like this ever again?

You look lovely, in both pictures.

Sometimes when I see your face, I'm still floored that you're so young! I have this image of you in my head, one that formed all those years ago on Beliefnet, that will not go away....

But you do look lovely, just as you are...Is your hair darker too, or is that just a trick of the lighting?

"BNet Amara" is Asian. Just so you know. ;-) I've never completely reconciled that whole "Amara on Bnet really is Natalie" thing.

Thank you! :-)

It's just a trick of the lighting. The second set of pictures were taken around dusk and with the wrong color balance setting on the camera, so it took a lot of Photoshopping to get it to semi-normal.

"I gave it to the peach..."

*jumps up and down and claps*

I have really got to take my "Silly Songs" CD to work.

The haircut looks great! I myself have taken to telling the stylist "please, just cut it and leave it wet, I'll just have to run home and wash out all the hair goop and loose bits of hair anyway."

And, to answer my own rhetorical question, no I'll never style it like this again. This morning the back is all lumpy and the front is refusing to curl in the right direction. Sigh.

Now back to your regularly scheduled, pretending-not-to-be-quite-this-vain Marjorie.

i had a variation of this haircut and discovered that my hair likes to curl in the same direction -- ie the hair on the right would curl under and the hair on the left would curl out. very frustrating. combing while still wet sometimes worked, but usually not. still, it looks very nice!
