In, like, a week. Eek.

I'm ridiculously excited.

Questions for Pittsburghy people:

1. Do you know anyone who's subletting for the summer? We're looking for somewhere to stay while we house-hunt (preferably furnished, and definitely in Squirrel Hill, Shadyside or Oakland).
   
2. Comcast or Verizon FiOS? Or are there other options?
   
3. Do you have any recommendations for cell phone providers/plans/phones? I was all excited about getting an Android, but I had no idea mobile telephony was so freakishly expensive in the US. I hereby take back all the mean things I've said about QTel.
   
4. In the extremely unlikely case that you have spawned young in Pittsburgh: Magee or West Penn?

Edit: In response to several questions -- it looks like Justin will have a couple job options in Pittsburgh, so we don't actually know where he'll be working yet.

Data plans are kind of expensive in, uh, most of the world. I don't think the US is so freakish relative to other places. -asdf

I didn't mean DATA plans were expensive, I meant NORMAL plans were expensive. I've only ever owned a cell phone in Qatar, so that's all I can compare to. J's last monthly bill was QR44 ($12). Mine was perhaps twice that, since I SMS a lot.

Now I'm thinking of doing something like the T-Mobile pay-as-you-go plan.

I use TMobile, and it's actually cheaper than any other smartphone orovider.

Also: West Penn. Overall, people in the West Penn system are much less disgruntled by their corporate behemoth than are people in UPMC. Magee residents are overworked, miserable, and bitchy.

On #2, I recommend Speakeasy DSL - they're very geek-friendly and the DSL-sans-phone-service thing works out pretty well.

1. I may have something for you, will contact you via other channels.
2. FiOS, if possible. I just switched recently when it became available in Squill. I have a data-only 25 symmetric plan for about $70 a month. Comcast pissed me off way too many times.
3. We just have iPhones, so not really.
4. I will ask some of my other friends on this one. I think I've heard good things about Magee though.
