Maybe this is one of those cool webpages everyone but me already knew about, but...
The yakuza boss in the Japanese cop show I'm watching just absentmindedly whistled a tune I felt I should know, and it was bugging me that I couldn't place it.
I thought to myself, hey, don't we live in the future? Shouldn't there be some kind of cool search engine for music by now? Turns out yes: Midomi.com (and some other websites like it) can record you humming a piece of music for about 10 seconds and then tell you what it is!
And sure enough, it figured it out: the yakuza boss was whistling the theme from the Godfather. Nice.

What blew my mind was humming Joe Hill. It came up with a couple different Japanese women singers singing the tune. i wonder what the song is they are singing.
