Shinkai to visit!!!

qatarperegrineThere's some way exciting news for CMU-Q peeps in today's A4, CMU-Q's newsletter for faculty and staff. I'm not sure who is sponsoring the event or if it's open to the public.
... Also, the next news item down is about my recent promotion. But I totally didn't even notice that for about 10 minutes, because I was too busy bouncing up and down about Shinkai.
World-renowned director and animator Makoto Shinkai will be in Doha for a two-day Japanese Anime event, Feb. 1 and 2.Makoto Shinkai!!! At Education City!!! squeeeeeeeeee! And they're screening his most recent film, which hasn't even come out outside Japan yet!
On Friday, Feb. 1, three of Shinkai’s movies will be shown in the VCUQ Atrium. The Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in our Early Days and 5 Centimeters Per Second will be shown beginning at 6 p.m. Shinkai will be on hand to introduce his films and talk a bit about them.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, Shinkai will be conducting a workshop where he will discuss his work and the techniques he uses to make animated movies. Shinkai also will demonstrate the software used to create animation. An informal Q&A session will follow. This workshop will run from 9 a.m. to noon in Lecture Hall B in the LAS Building.
Both events have limited seating. To reserve a space at either event, send an e-mail to [redacted] by Jan. 28.
