Moving!

I started moving into our new compound last night. The apartments there are nice, and most of the other TAs, CAs and young faculty live there, so though I'll miss our friends in Riviera I'm excited to make the move.

The first carload I moved comprised my religious studies books. When I packed my Qur'an, I carefully ensured that it was at the top of the stack of books in its box, in accordance with Qur'an-handling etiquette. It wasn't until I picked up the box to move it that I realized I had just reverently packed my Qur'an into an Absolut vodka box.

I think I'm going straight to hell.

Hope you've got tight windows in your new compound -- or at least some electric heaters! A co-worker's dad said it was 5C there the other day...? That's insane!

im curious ... with the dangerous driving in doha, might it be better to pad the quran by placing it in the middle of a box of books, just in case your car gets hit? perhaps there ought to be an addendum to the rule.

I wonder how one proposes an addendum....

It's pretty silly for me to be worrying about these rules of etiquette to begin with, since they specify that non-Muslims shouldn't be touching the Qur'an in the first place.

Haha thats neat! I had a Muslim friend over a day ago, and at some point she asked me whether she could pray. I decided against telling her that she was facing the bar stuffed with drinks when she prayed!
