This evening, while hanging out in Leland's dorm, I was in the space of 10 minutes mistaken for:
(a) an undergraduate
(b) Leland's mother.
That was amusing.

[livejournal.com profile] syd___ suggested I could write about my feelings about Qatar while I'm in the U.S., so here's my thought about Qatar for the day:

When I heard about the new bin Laden tape threatening more attacks on the U.S., my first, automatic thought was, "Thank God I'll be safely back in the Middle East soon." That's not a thought I expected to have when I moved to Qatar.

So apparently, there's at least one undergrad at (CMU, I assume?) who has trouble with judging age, and maybe with tact. No surprise there!

Your thoughts on Qatar are amusing, but don't represent the whole Middle East. Qatar is safe largely thanks to its relationship to the US (at least, as long as other high-ranking officials know that you can't bomb Doha).
