Musings on friendship
Jul. 6th, 2006 09:54 amLast week I ran into a woman who was my best friend during the first couple years of high school.
I asked, "So, what have you been up to for the last... um... seven? eight?"
"-- twelve years?" she finished.
When did I turn into the age of person that could ask the question "What have you been up to for the 12 years since we had a serious conversation?"
I've been trying to remember why she and I drifted apart. Mostly, I think, we started taking different classes. Partly, she started dating someone I didn't like. I guess it largely boils down to the fact that, at that point in my life, I really didn't know how to cope with people I cared about making decisions that were different from mine.
I'm still working on that one.
