As soon as we deplaned (how I hate that word) my coworkers asked me what it felt like to be back in Pittsburgh. Since all airports feel like all other airports, I didn't really have an answer.

Now I've been here 20 hours, and I'm surprised how normal it feels. Last night I walked across the Pitt campus, totally lost in my thoughts; my feet found their way to where I was going without any particuarly intervention from my brain. It didn't feel like I'd been gone at all.

Then, of course, I got to the old parking lot outside the library and discovered that it has finally been turned into a park. What an improvement! I could really live without the 30-foot-tall inflatable houndstooth squirrel, though.

A guy just struck up a conversation with me in the hotel elevator. I was carrying a book called Strategies for College Success, and he asked if I'm an incoming freshman.

I guess it beats being mistaken for the MOTHER of a freshman.
