Recursive Garangao
Oct. 18th, 2005 05:55 pmOne of my reasons for putting the links sidebar on my blog was that a coworker said she found my blog through Googling "Garangao," but she was confused about whether it was actually me or not because there were no pictures. So I Googled "Garangao" myself to see what she would have seen, and found that the #2 hit was a link to my Language tag page, presumably because the "Diglossia" post there discusses the word Garangao. That is a confusing way to enter the blog, because the links at the top imply that you are reading the "Recent Entries," but of course you are not. Unless you notice the "tags" part of the URL, you have no real way of knowing why you're seeing the particular collection of posts you're seeing. I made the links sidebar so that there will be an easy way to get around the blog in such situations. I also mentioned in a recent post that my blog had been the #2 hit when Googling "Garangao."
So this evening I Googled "Garangao" again to see if the experience is a little more user-friendly... and I discovered that, NOW, the #2 hit on Google is actually the post in which I mention that my blog is the #2 hit on Google. Weird. (The previous #2 is now #1. I'm taking over the top 10 hits, muhahahah!)
