I just checked the Qatar news, as I do every morning. The top local story is this gem:
Sweaty days are here again, starting tonight
Just what I want to hear two weeks before moving somewhere!
Sweaty days are here again, starting tonight
"DOHA: People can expect to sweat out the rest of the summer beginning tonight as a change in wind direction is expected to push up humidity levels sharply to around 95 per cent.
"A weather expert said yesterday that July 15 was the time when the high humidity normally kicks off in right earnest.
"For all of June and half of July the temperatures remain very high, but with winds blowing from the north-west, the humidity is at bearable levels.
"The winds start to change direction to north-easterly by mid-July and that’s when life becomes truly miserable for people having to venture outdoors.
"The situation hardly improves with sunset, as the nights are even stuffier than the days. While the relative humidity levels were hovering between 75 to 85 per cent until Friday night, they were expected to shoot up to between 93 and 95 per cent from tonight.
"With humidity rising, though, temperatures tend to climb down.
"As opposed to maximum temperatures of 45 to 46 degrees celsius [113-115 Fahrenheit] until the day before, the mercury is expected to come down to around 42-43 degrees celsius [108-110 Fahrenheit] today and tomorrow. The forecaster at the Department of Meteorology in the Civil Aviation Authority, said the high humidity levels would persist at least until mid-September."
