Entrapment

Two men were sentenced to death in Qatar on Thursday -- for drug crimes. Two men face firing squad for drug smuggling.

The details of the first case are particularly horrifying. The men were not arrested in Qatar, and they had had no intention to sell drugs in Qatar until they were persuaded to do so by undercover law enforcement.

And, in, tangentially related news, Lack of freedom holds Arabs back: Qaradawi.

You can now translate webpages (and pretty much anything else) from Arabic to English, or vice versa, with Google Translate.

This makes me unbelievably ecstatic!!!! Think how many more websites on Islam have just become accessible to me! Plus, I can now read the main Al Jazeera as well as their English edition, to see how different their articles are.

The translation isn't perfect (see here, where Hezbollah accuses the U.S. of "acupuncture without any sense of conscience") but it's a million trillion times better than I can do on my own (which is more like: ooh, ooh, I think that word's a preposition!)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kevin143 for the heads-up. (And, Matt, find the coworker responsible for this, and give them a big sloppy kiss from me.)
